[Guide] How to download whole or sections of website

Post by Boyo on Sat Jun 13, 2009 9:45 pm

Mkay you want to download a website. In my imaginary situation Bunny has made a website named Bunny.com and all the maps he has downloaded are at bunny.com/maps. You also want his scripts which are at bunny.com/scripts. all the files you want add up to about 400 or so files XD So instead of clicking on these files one at a time you want an easier way to download them all at once. Easy. There is a really good program that I use to download websites called winhttrack (http://www.httrack.com/). This program has been able to download everything I've wanted except for Java Script stuff Rolling Eyes . It is very user friendly but I will still go through step by step how to use it. First you need to download it (http://www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.html) than install it.

Now, the first time you start the program you get spammed with a bunch of questions and we are going to go through them one at a time Shocked . Once its started up it asks you which language you want to use so select it and press okay. The second question is if you wish to configure a proxy, if you dont know what a proxy is or dont have one just press cancel.

Now we are ready to download websites Very Happy . The first thing we need to do is press next, then type in a Project Name like Bunny's website shtuff. You can ignore a Project Category unless you feel the need to add one than choose where the website will be downloaded by clicking on browse. Now press next. Select an action for the website now and then click on Add Url ex Bunny.com or if you want a section like just the maps Bunny.com/maps. I think you get the point. Now click next. Now click Finish unless you wanna change some settings. Now you can see what is being downloaded from the website and you can skip any files you dont want Very Happy. Once its done you can click view browsed website to browse it in you internet exploring program. If you want to see what was downloaded go to the place you chose to download it like C:/Websites. Once inside the folder you will see a folder named Bunny, double click it. If you downloaded bunny.com/maps there should be a map folder with all the maps so just click maps to view all of them then move them into your game folder.

Enjoy cheers

Also, if you want to mirror a copy of your bank records from bbt.com, You have to type in your username and password in the same box as where you add a url.

If you want to do something clever and say download the leaders/owners forums from here (and your not an owner or leader), good luck. There are plenty of safety features to prevent people doing that. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is robots.txt to block search engines from adding some parts (or all) of a website to their database.
